Candle Care

How to care for your luxury candle

To ensure that you get the most out of your gorgeous luxury candle, please follow the advice below.

Before you light your candle

Remove your candle from its packaging and breathe in the beautiful aroma.

Remove any tags/dust covers and any other decorations before lighting.

Lighting your candle & burn time

Burn your candle for approx. 4 hours at a time. This is important on the first burn to ensure you get a good melt pool. If this does not happen on your first burn do not worry as it will catch up on the next burn unless you have only burnt the candle for a brief period of time.

Soy wax has a memory so if you do not get a good melt pool on your first burn, your candle will tunnel which means it will not last as long.

Burning a candle for longer than 4 hours can sometimes affect your vessel which can get too hot and potentially crack.

Candle burns times can vary dependant on your environment. A cold room a candle may burn for a longer period, but the fragrance may not be as strong. The hotter the room the faster the candle may burn. An ambient room temperature will give off the best fragrance.

Do not leave your candles in direct sunlight. The fragrance within the candle will evaporate. If your candle comes with a lid, we recommend that you put the lid on your candle when not using.

Trim your wick (Important)

Trim your wick between each burn keeping it at 5mm above the surface of the wax. Not trimming your wick correctly will affect the way your candle burns and can cause sooting.

Sometimes wicks can develop mushrooming. This can happen for a number of reasons but do not worry all you need to do is trim the wick before re lighting to ensure continuous burning.

If you leave a mushroom on your wick and relight it, you will get sooting and black smoke.

Only trim your wick when the wax is cold to avoid any damage to your skin.

We recommend wick trimmers to care for your wick. Wick trimmers are designed to catch the black embers of the wick when trimming and help prevent them from falling into your candle which can ruin the aesthetic appeal of the wax.

Burning your candle

Ensure that the surface your candle is on is flat and draft free. A sloping surface can cause your candle to burn incorrectly, and a draft can cause your flame to flicker and smoke.

Ensure that you place your candle on a mat or something similar to protect any furniture or surfaces.

Do not place your candle too close to walls as you may get some soot marks which may damage your wallpaper.

Candle fragrance

The strength of the fragrance will be affected by your room size. A large room is more difficult to scent than a smaller room.

If you have an open plan room, you may want to burn more than one candle in different areas of the room to achieve the fragrance level you desire.

All fragrances have a different scent level. Some have a strong powerful fragrance which will fill your room with a strong beautiful aroma, other fragrances have a more subtle scent level which will gentle fill your room but will not be as strong.

Fragrance & sent level is a personal choice. Obtain your desired scent level by testing in different sized rooms or by burning more than one candle of the same fragrance to achieve your desired result.

Candle soot

Candle soot can appear on your vessel. This is due to your candle getting hotter the further down the vessel it burns.

If you want to remove this do so when your candle is fully cold. Use a clean dry soft cloth to remove the soot and if this does not work dab a little pure alcohol on the cloth and wipe away the soot. Be careful not to damage your wick and it is advisable not to use water. Water in your candle can cause it to spit.

Candle safety

Always burn in a safe place away from children and pets and anything flammable

Always burn your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface

Don’t burn multiply candles too close to each other or near any draughts.

Take care when blowing out a candle. Do not blow to hard or you will spray wax onto surrounding surfaces and can blow wick embers onto flammable surfaces causing damage or fires.

Do not get to close to the naked flame when blowing out, we recommend using a candle snuffer to ensure the candle is snuffed out in safest feasible way.

Always double check your candle has gone out fully before leaving.

Avoid burning candles close to curtains or fabric as these can be highly flammable. Opening a door can cause a draft, positioning your candle too close to anything flammable can be a fire risk.
